8th International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics

                          ISSI-2001, SYDNEY AUSTRALIA
                                16-20 JULY, 2001

Dear Colleagues,
The ISSI-2001 Conference is just 10 weeks away. The Australian Organising
Committee's planning is on target to deliver a stimulating conference at the
University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia this coming July. The peer
review of all submitted papers is completed and the list of papers accepted for
both oral and poster presentation is now online via the Conference web page at:

http://sistm.web.unsw.edu.au/conference/issi2001/

Also viewable online is the Preliminary Program which includes 18 separate
sessions for the accepted papers, poster sessions and two Special Plenary
Sessions. The first of these on "The Role and Use of Journal Impact Measures" is
scheduled for Tuesday 17th July. The organisers of this Special Session, both
winners of the Derek de Solla Price Medal (awarded in 1997), are Henk Moed of
CWTS, Leiden University, and Wolfgang Glanzel from Germany & Hungarian Academy
of Science. The second, on "Cybermetrics", focuses on how to measure information
use and impact on the Web. This second Special Session, chaired and organised by
Isidro Aguillo of CINDOC Spain and Editor of the e-journal, 'Cybermetrics', and
Ronald Rousseau of Belgium (KHBO, Industrial Sciences and Technology), is on
Friday morning (20th July). Some exciting social and celebratory activities are
also scheduled, mainly during the evenings.
Registration is now open online at the Web site; the early-bird discount is
available up to May 31st. Payment options are by MasterCard or Visa, bank cheque
or money order. On submitting your registration, you will receive a printable
letter to mail with your payment to the Australian Organising Committee .
We welcome all -- paper and poster presenters, participants who are active
in the field, interested academics, policy makers, and the public. This
conference is a "must" for those wanting to hear the latest research and about
new methods in the field, and for those interested in learning what this field
can offer to science studies, higher education and research policy development,
and to general understandings about the growth, structure and processes of
scientific knowledge generation.
