Inviting keynote speakers is tricky because many, perhaps most, of the people we will want are not available! I have made informal inquiries to three people to see if they have any interest or availability - John Ioannadis, George Santangelo, and Brian Nosek. I did not hear back from the first two (at least not yet), and the the third is handled by a secretary who is used to speaking engagements that offer honoraria [which we are not allowed to give]. The good news is that ASIS&T does allow us to defray travel and workshop registration for nonmember speakers who would otherwise not be attending the conference. And speakers who are at NIH are not allowed to receive anything at all.
I think we can and should invited two keynote speakers - one on a traditional topic of citations or impact or bibliometrics etc., and one on the special topic of reproducibility metrics that I am trying to encourage this year. Two additional possible people we could invite are Phil Bourne or Halil Kilicoglu. I realize that this list is male-heavy and hope that others will propose names (including females) in each of the two categories. But I am getting very little feedback from the listserv and the responses are not very nimble, so I may have to use my best judgement in making invitations. If someone strongly objects to a name that is proposed, they should speak up quickly and loudly! - Neil
