I agree with Andrea about the greater visibility for the SIG. Seeing the current SIG financial report, it might be feasible--but this would depend on the SIG's own plans for the year, particularly in support of its own events and awards. In looking at the report, unless I am misunderstanding the amounts, allocations, and when they are applied, it appears $1885 was used to support the student paper competition and workshop discounts. I would assume a similar amount would be needed for the upcoming year's awards. The revenue from the AM workshop doesn't appear to have covered all the expenses. However, last year's webinar provided a nice financial buffer to cover the shortfall, and even left some carryover for this year. With just under $2300 left in the account, this wouldn't leave much after the student awards for RDAP sponsorship unless HQ sources could be tapped or the SIG anticipates additional revenue like last year's webinar or further external sponsorships. If not, perhaps partial sponsorship could be considered.

I think the topic is very hot. If I understood the request correctly, the question is to sponsor the conference for being mentioned in return. But, would it not also be a possibility to be more visible. We do have "altmetrics experts" in our group – Judit, and maybe more. I would tend to think sponsorship yes, but than in conjunction with a participation.

I’m writing to you in my capacity as panel organizer for the ASIS&T Research Data Access and Preservation (RDAP) 2013 Summit, to be held April 4-5, 2013 in Baltimore, MD. As you may know, the RDAP summit has quickly established itself as one of the top conferences for data curation practitioners in North America. 

  

I am writing to ask whether the ASIS&T Metrics SIG would be interested in sponsoring a “Data Citation and Altmetrics” conference panel during this year’s meeting. SIG sponsors in years past (namely, the Digital Libraries SIG) have generously offered to pay for panelists’ registration costs to the conference in exchange for acknowledgement in the program and social media, and prominent placement of SIG links and logos on the RDAP website. 

  

It is expected that there will be three panelists; total registration costs will likely be in the range of $780-$1100.
