A few thoughts....
1) I agree with having one free and one at a cost. Benefits to both
approaches, so overall will be good for the SIG.
2) As Stasa mentioned in another email, it might be nice to rethink
our criteria and process in keeping with other similar contests. This
may include excluding co-authored papers and focusing on awarding,
rather than reviewing.
3) I was very unhappy with the cost of the workshop last year. I would
love to hear us think out of the box on the workshop. Can we do
without a projector? Can we do without food? Can we do without lengthy
submissions? In my own opinion, I would love for us to continually ask
ourselves: how can we encourage more discussion about the most
pressing/interesting/innovative issues of SIGMET? If we aren't doing
that at every stage, we should rethink the approach.
4) I am happy to help on this in any way. What about approaching Gene
to write something? Stasa, let me know if we can meet next week to
discuss ideas.
