[Sigmet-officers] iConfeence - feedback on possible Webmar topics?

Jonathan,

I've been meaning to respond to your posting. Things have been surreal here in Wisconsin the past few days with the state budget debates going on. The level of protests on our campus (just below my office, unfortunately) and those particularly in Madison have not been seen since the 1960s.

I think the iConference workshop went well. It attracted a mix of people with backgrounds in metrics and individuals who were interested in finding out more. There were at least 25 people registered for the workshop, but only about 15 showed up. We also lost some people as the workshop proceeded. By the time we got to the discussion at the end, there were only about 8 people left in the audience. There wasn't a very rousing discussion thereafter. Judit, Jesper and I provided our thoughts on some current issues in the field. I recall asking what types of research audience members thought the metrics community should pursue. It didn't generate much in the way of useful feedback. There was some discussion regarding indicators and the ongoing debate between the two European groups. I  reminded people of the SIG during the introduction and encouraged them to join. The four SIG/MET officers went to a nice Chinese restaurant afterwards for dinner .

Angela, Judit and Stasa, I don't know if you have anything to add. I'm sure I may have missed some points. I wasn't able to stay for the rest of the conference, so I don't know how it went.

Subject: [Sigmet-officers] iConfeence - feedback on possible Webmar topics?

Hi,

How did the iConfeence workshop and conference go?   Did they provide any useful feedback on possible Webmar topics or on anything else relevant to   SIG/MET?

Best regards,

Jonathan.
