SIG-LT Planning Meeting
Monday, October 31, 2005


Attending: Rafal Kasprowski, Ann Eagan, Kjersten Elias

Rafal reviewed the SIG Cabinet activities and talked about the SIG 
reorganization into traditional and virtual SIGs.

Since only three people attended the meeting, Rafal will send a message out 
to the SIG-LT discussion list to solicit nominations for officers.

Ideas for programs for ASIST 2006:

Link Resolvers - implementation, technical aspects; Rafal will take the 
lead on creating the program proposal

Metasearch Tools – implementation, how well are they doing in practice; 
Need someone to create proposal

Open Source Software (such as Shibboleth); Need someone to create proposal

Search result visualization via OPACs and browsers (such as Grokker, 
AquaBrowser); Need someone to create proposal

Rafal and Ann ended the meeting by drafting the 2004-2005 Annual Report.

Addendum to the Planning Meeting

On Wednesday, November 2, 2005, the All SIG Planning meeting took 
place.  Ann Eagan presented the SIG-LT program ideas and received the 
following feedback:

Link Resolvers - implementation, technical aspects; Rafal will take the 
lead on creating the program proposal.  Pascal Calarco suggested speakers 
for this session: David Walker from California on RSS and SFX and Mark 
Dehmlow, Electronic Resources Librarian, Notre Dame on SFX MarcIt! And SFX 
and IEEE Proceedings work.  Pascal also indicated he would be willing to help.

Metasearch Tools – implementation, how well are they doing in practice;

AquaBrowser); Need someone to create proposal.  Diane Neal, SIG-VIS 
Co-chair, dneal at mail.twu.edu, indicated VIS would be interested in 
co-sponsoring this program.

SIG-MED presented an idea for a program on Resources on PDAs for 
Practitioners.  I indicated that SIG-LT would be interested in co-sponsoring.

Michael Leach, incoming ASIST President, encouraged SIGs to think beyond 
the Annual Meeting for programming.  He mentioned the DASER Summit and the 
Information Architecture Summit as examples of how SIGs worked with other 
SIGs, chapters and ASIST Headquarters to create alternative 
programming.  He also said that the IA Summit calls upon a good deal of 
ASIST Headquarters support for registration, on-site registration and 
publications.  The first DASER Summit tapped into the SIG project fund 
which is available to all SIGs.  In the ensuing discussion, JASIST was also 
mentioned as a way for SIGs to share information.  SIG-STI had a 
Perspectives issue where papers from the Tri-Society Symposium were 
published.  SIG-III reminded everyone that programming is not limited to 
the U.S., either.

The SIG Cabinet Director, Vicki Gregory, reminded everyone to submit 
officer lists as soon as possible.  She will add the officer names to 
SIG-L.  If anyone’s email address changes during the year, please let her 
know so that important SIG information gets out to all officers.
