Call for nominations: UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize
16-02-2009 (Paris)
UNESCO is inviting nominations for the third award of the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize. This invitation is extended to all Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, as well as to international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) maintaining official relations with UNESCO and whose work is in the field of preservation and conservation of documentary heritage.
Each nomination must include the following:
* a description of the candidate's background and achievements, in English or French;
* a summary of the work or the results of the work;
* publications or other supporting documents of major importance; and
* a review of the way in which the work submitted has contributed to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.
The Prize was created to commemorate the inscription of the Buljo jikji simche yojeol - the oldest known book of moveable metal print in the world - on the Memory of the World Register, and to contribute to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage as a common heritage of humanity. It is funded by the Republic of Korea through arrangements made with the Municipal Council of Cheongju City and consists of an award of US $30,000 that is given every two years to individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.
