Dear Sir,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the "Information Communication Technology Law, Protection and Access Rights: Global Approaches and Issues" book. For your reference, please find bellow a detailed explanation of our objectives for this manuscript as well as suggestion of some possible topics to which you may wish to contribute.  You are, however, not limited to these topics.  Please feel free to add any topics that you think are critical issues in the theme.


INTRODUCTION:

Information communication technology (ICT) plays a pivotal role in today's dynamic world. The expectation is that this role will continue. The relationship of law, ethics, politics and social policy on technology access, use and advancement is an important factor in the development of new or existing technologies. Some of the relevant issues in the relationship, particularly in the case of ICT, relate to rights to privacy, confidence and reputation. Rights to privacy, confidence and reputation are recognised rights in most legal systems. These rights are available to both natural and legal persons. ICT has often and is predicted to continue to raise issues pertaining to access rights and the guarantee, extent and enforcement of privacy, confidence and reputation rights. The Internet is a clear example, although the extent of the impact of the Internet on privacy, confidence and reputation continues to unravel with time. 


MISSION AND OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF THE BOOK:  

The objective of the book is to ensure unhindered ICT development by identifying key issues in the relationship of ICT on the one hand, and law, ethics, politics and social policy, on the other hand. This relationship is with specific reference to the globally recognised access rights and rights to privacy, confidence and reputation. The relationship will continue to require empirical, experimental, historical, analytical and theoretical research for the examination and resolution of relevant issues and challenges. 
The book will address relevant issues from the practical, legal, ethical, political and social policy perspectives. The book will attempt to draw attention to diverse global approaches to the challenges posed by ICT to access rights and the guarantee and protection of rights to privacy, confidence and reputation. Industry, national and international measures and models and will be examined. The aim is to assist in shaping and ensuring an effective relationship between ICT development and law, ethics, politics and social policy in those areas.


RECOMMENDED TOPICS:

Contributions are invited from experts in ICT, computing, law, management, ethics, politics and other fields. Submissions may be on any aspect of the intersection between ICT and access rights and the protection of privacy, confidence and reputation.  Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  -- Media and advertising, consumer protection, investor protection, evidence, cybercrime, education, e-government, e-commerce, employment relationships, Internet governance, business and contractual relationships, or administration, compliance and enforcement.

  --  Difficulties with existing rules, models and practices and effectiveness and coordination of existing institutional, regulatory and other mechanisms

  --  Regimes, models and practices in named industries

  --  Internet domain regulation and allocation

  --  Management of top level domains and domain names

  --  International law and information interchange

  --  Extent of convergence of ICT development and law, ethics and social policy in named jurisdiction(s)

  --  Addressing present and future challenges of regulation, jurisdiction, responsibility and liability-

  --  Existence or development of efficient and effective relationship between ICT development and law, ethics, politics and social policy

  --  Designing appropriate frameworks, models, strategies and solutions

  --  Initiating, implementing and maintaining effective policies, models and rules

The book is directed at both the academic and non-academic audience including researchers, users, organisations, policy initiators, students and practitioners in fields such as ICT, law, ethics, sociology, politics, labour relations, advertising, corporate practice, and education.


SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:  

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 05, 2008, a 1-2 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 15, 2008 about the status of their proposals and will be sent chapter organization guidelines. Full chapters (7,000 to 10,000 words) are expected to be submitted by March 15, 2009. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be published in 2010 by IGI Global, http://www.igi-global.com, publisher of Information Science Reference (formerly Idea Group Reference), and Medical Information Science Reference imprints.

Submissions should be forwarded electronically (Word document as attachment) to ict.law.book at gmail.com.  LaTex files cannot be accepted.
