SLA has recently launched a Knowledge Management division, which I'm also a member. There are some KM courses available during the annual conference. See the descriptions of the courses below, and get more information on the conference by clicking on the link below.

Communities of Practice and Collaboration A tutorial Patti Anklam, Principal Consultant, Hutchinson Associates This course is a tutorial on the discipline of Communities of Practice (CoPs). It will cover the types of CoP and how to position them to produce value for all stakeholders. A walk-through of the CoP life cycle will include techniques for working with them during different stages of development, and the course will summarize current technologies used by CoPs, with recommended practices for selecting and introducing technology.
The intended audience includes information professionals who are interested in new approaches to developing competencies in their organizations around key knowledge areas through the development of Communities of Practice. In addition, SLA leaders responsible for SLA Communities of Practice who want a theoretical grounding in communities of practice as well as practical ideas for applying community of practice principles and technologies may benefit.

Knowledge Management in a Nutshell - Getting Started Wilda Newman, Knowledge Resources Associates, LLC This is an introductory workshop intended for those not yet involved in KM and seeking a basic understanding of the field. It will present KM theory and relate theory to the attendees' own organizational context. Attendees will learn techniques to analyze alternative approaches and assess where and how to begin the KM implementation process. The intended audience includes librarians and information professionals who are interested in beginning a knowledge management program and seek introductory-level formal training. Attendees must bring an organization chart of the organization in which they are planning to introduce knowledge management. If one does not exist, they must draft one that reflects their understanding of organizational structure.

Mapping Networks and Knowledge Flows: Applying the science of networks to KM design Patti Anklam, Principal Consultant, Hutchinson Associates This course will provide a tutorial on current, leading-edge thinking about networks and knowledge. It will explore two important techniques: Social Network Analysis (SNA) (also called Organizational Network Analysis, or
ONA) and Value Network Analysis (VNA). Attendees will take away an understanding of network concepts that enables them to look at their organizations in a new way and be more effective in facilitating communication flows. They will learn "Pencil-and-paper" techniques to map the dynamics of knowledge flow; discover resources for further learning; and identify opportunities to participate in communities of research and practice.
