Welcome Knowledge Management - SIG Members....

The Annual ASIST Meeting in Providence was very productive for SIG-KM.

I'm very happy to tell you that we currently have a full group of
officers for our SIG. They are:

Chair-Elect: Deborah Swain, North Carolina Central University
    Treasurer: Mary Durham, Genzyme Corp.
Web Master: Susan Maze, William Woods University
Communications: Kelly Green, Virginia Retirement System

Needless to say our SIG Planning Meeting was very well attended and a
lot of great programming ideas were generated for next years meeting in
Charlotte, North Carolina. The theme for the '05 conference is "Sparking
Synergies: Bringing Research and Practice Together @ ASIST '05." We are
currently working on the following programs:

1) Knowledge Management Case Study Presentations

If you have a KM Case Study that you were involved in, or know of
someone working in the field who would have an interesting story to
tell, please contact me. With next years meeting having an emphasis on
"Bringing Research and Practice Together," real world stories of what
has worked, or not, is what we would like to present.

2) Knowledge Management Education

We would like to expand on this years presentation on KM Education. If
you are teaching KM, or have something to share on this topic, we would
like to hear from you. Please contact Miguel Morales, Oklahoma
University (marroyo at ou.edu) who will be coordinating this proposal.

3) History of Knowledge Management

Drs. Suliman Hawamdeh (Oklahoma University) & T. Kanti Srikantaiah
(Dominican University) are preparing a program to present the history of
the Knowledge Management discipline.

Have A Program Idea?

If you have other ideas for programs for next years meeting and are
willing to work on the proposal for the program, please contact me.
The deadline for contributed papers, technical sessions and panels, and
pre-conference session proposals is January 21, 2005, so we don't have a
lot of time.

There is also another exciting development...

There is a possibility that the annual conference of the Information &
Knowledge Management Society (IKMS.org) will be held immediately
preceding the ASIST Annual Conference. Dr. Hawamdeh is the program chair
of this years conference in Singapore and next years conference is
planned for the United States. Stay tuned for further developments
and/or calls for participation.
