Hello SIG-KM...

I'm a little late getting the Monthly Knowledge Exchange off the
ground, so we may end up changing topics at mid-month rather than at the
start of a month. But hey, we're flexible. Before I introduce this
months topic, let me tell you a little about what's going on.

1) We are actively gathering ideas and plans for SIG-KM technical
programs for next years Conference in Rhode Island. Our list of
topics/titles include:

     Maturity Modeling in KM
     Social Network Analysis
     "Knowledge Upside Down" (debate)
     Socialism of Truth
     KM Through the Business Literature
     Evolution of KM
     Storytelling in KM
Change & Innovation - "The Tipping Point"

If you have any contacts with speakers or suggestions please share them
with us as soon as you can. Our deadline for program proposals is
January 17th.

2) We may be needing a new web-master for the SIG-KM site. If you are
interested please contact me.

Monthly Knowledge Exchange
Topic - "Knowledge Mapping"

This months topic is Knowledge Mapping. Like a lot of things associated
with KM, Knowledge Mapping means different things to different people.
The concept of a "map" brings to mind a visually-rich diagram, but not
all knowledge maps are created equal.

So my questions to the list are these:

- To those of you who have created Knowledge Maps...
How did you go about creating them?
How did you "diagram" / "map" / "display" the information or
knowledge you found?
How did others react to your Knowledge Maps?

- If you haven't created a Knowledge Map, but have been exposed to one
in your organization...
How was the "map" presented? In what form?
What were your reactions to the "map"?

If Knowledge Mapping is totally foreign to you, try the Knowledge
Mapping page at the KMWiki site. (
http://www.voght.com/cgi-bin/pywiki?KnowledgeMapping )

Let us know what you know. The Knowledge Exchange is now open!

Regards,
Michael M. Smith
