[Sigkm-l] Faculty Position in KM at Kent State University

The Masters Program in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management at 
Kent State University (http://iakm.kent.edu) is seeking an applicant for a 
tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor. This 
unique and innovative, interdisciplinary program was inaugurated in the 
Fall, 2001, and has attracted a strong cadre of students. The program is a 
collaboration of the Department of Computer Science, the Graduate School of 
Management, the School of Communication Studies, the School of Journalism 
and Mass Communication, the School of Visual Communication Design, and the 
School of Library and Information Science. The appointment is to the 
College of Communication and Information with an affiliation to the School 
of Library and Information Science.

Teaching competencies or research interests are sought in several of the 
following areas:

Information Architecture

Usability Testing or Engineering

Knowledge Management

Text Mining, Knowledge Representation

Metadata, Ontologies

Document Engineering/Management

Content Management

Qualifications include a Masters degree in Information Science or a related 
field and a completed doctorate or substantial progress toward completion 
of a doctorate in Information Science or a related field. Experience and/or 
interest in synchronous or asynchronous digital distance learning is highly 
desirable. Nine-month appointment; summer teaching and workshops may be 
available. Salary is competitive; benefits are excellent. The position is 
available for the Fall, 2003. Applications will be accepted until the

To better work with the growing demands of the information economy, Kent 
State University launched a unique, new college, the College of 
Communication and Information in July, 2002. It is composed of the School 
of Communication Studies, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, 
the School of Library and Information Science, and the School of Visual 
Communication Design. In addition, Kent State University has made major 
investments in state-of-the-art information and networked technologies, 
such as the Moulton Hall Technologies and Learning Center, a center for 
Kent's innovations in teaching, research, corporate training and networked 
information resources. It is classified as a "Doctoral Extensive" 
university by Carnegie and is a member of the Internet2 consortium, one of 
an elite group of institutions in Ohio and nationwide. Ohio is a recognized 
leader in information networks and has undertaken major funding commitments 
to use information technologies to promote economic development.
