This event is always one of the highlights of the Annual Meetings. The money that is raised by this event is used to help fund SIG III?s InfoShare project which awards 1-year ASIST memberships to Information Professionals in developing countries for whom the cost of membership would be a financial burden. This year we are going to have a page on the SIG III website for you to showcase your items months in advance of the silent auction. The first step in the process is to go to this form http://www.formpl.us/form/0B4nZCvpgLedRRlhjb3NWeVB2YUE/ and provide a description and an image of the item(s) you wish to donate. We plan to post some of these items and their pictures on the SIG III website around the end of August. We are looking forward to all of your wonderful donations. The hub is a collaborative ?Open Data? platform for sharing digital content about development that aims to improve the supply and accessibility of content that supports evidence-informed policy making and practice by development actors. A key aspect of the hub?s design is to raise the profile of diverse perspectives on development, paying particular attention to research content from developing countries. OKhub full width Here at Eldis we contribute our open content to the hub so that it can be easily repackaged and re-used by others to present credible and relevant content on their own websites and tailor it to their own audiences and contexts. We also use the Hub ourselves as a way to source new, relevant, high quality research content for our own Resource Guides and other services. Deadline: Monday 19 January 2015 i3 focuses on the quality and effectiveness of the interaction between people and information and how this interaction can bring about change. The conference will look beyond the issues of use and accessibility of technology to questions about the way people interact with the information and knowledge content of today's systems and services, and how this might ultimately affect the impact of that information on individuals, organisations and communities. We invite the submission of high quality papers that report original research or critically discuss underlying methodological issues associated with the main themes of the conference. Papers may reflect ongoing or completed research studies and should not have been previously published or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. We would particularly welcome papers which address two or more of the following conference themes: ? the quality and effectiveness of user/information interactions (e.g. information literacies); ? patterns of information behaviour in different contexts (e.g. creativity, ethics, surveillance, ownership, information recycling/reuse); ? the social, cultural and economic impacts of engagement with information, including the assessment of impact; ? the value of information and knowledge as enablers of resilience and change in organisations and communities. By looking at these issues i3 seeks to influence the development of research towards a fuller understanding of the role of information in a complex, fast-moving information society. Submissions are invited for: ? Full papers (40 minutes duration: 35 minutes, 5 minutes for questions); ? Short papers (15 minutes duration: questions at end of session); and ? Round table discussions (60-80 minutes duration). Authors who are accepted to give full papers at i3 will also be invited to submit a full paper for consideration by the editorial board of the Journal of Information Science (http://jis.sagepub.com) for a special issue in spring 2016. Contributors should submit abstracts of 1000 words (excluding the list of references) for full papers, and 300-500 words (excluding the list of references) for short papers and round table discussions. These should be submitted electronically by downloading the online submissions form, located on the Call for Papers section of the website (http://www.rgu.ac.uk/i3conference2015). This should then be emailed (as an attachment) to i3submissions at rgu.ac.uk. The conference language will be English. Submissions will be anonymously reviewed by two members of the International Programme Committee specialising in one or more of the conference research streams. Notification of acceptance will be emailed to authors and will also include the comments of the reviewers. Full details of the requirements can be found in the Call for Papers section of the website. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 19 January 2015. For any further information please see http://www.rgu.ac.uk/i3conference2015, or contact the conference team at i3information at rgu.ac.uk. In many ways, the borders that previously separated us as citizens physically and culturally have begun to dissipate, replaced by a call for an intercultural accountability and a form of global citizenship that, on one hand, surpasses borders, patriotism, and nationalism alike, but while on the other, demands an understanding and respect for the cultural idiosyncrasies among us, acknowledging the unique existential paradox of universal citizenship that posits each of us as both stranger and citizen on a commonly shared globe. What is cosmopolitan in the digital age? Is a global digital citizen the same as merely a digital citizen? While talk of digital citizenship has increased in recent years, usually centered on a capitalist drive, encouraging a full electronic participation in society and a responsibility to digital commerce, many questions remain unanswered. Is the netizen the citizen of a democratic state, and of digital democracy? As a citizen of the world interacting online, how will one?s ?rights? and ?duties? be determined? And are these ?rights? universal, and in such a case, what does ?universal? mean? What are the legal parameters of netizenship, and what will they be as globalization further takes hold? Is democracy critical to citizenship, or is it not? What are the political landscapes of global citizenship in the digital age? And last of all, is the concept of digital citizenship even tangible? Is it real? This issue of IRIE will explore the cultural and ethical dimensions of global citizenship in a digital age, looking at the implications, challenges and future of a digitally constructed globalization. We welcome the exploration of, while not restricting to, the following subject areas: * Defining ?rights? and ?duties? in terms of digital citizenship * Universal rights in the digital age * Intercultural perspectives on citizenship * Exploration of the digital divide in terms of citizenship * Borders and nationalism * Digital citizenship as defined by responsible use of technology * Governance, law and/or civil rights in terms of globalization * Ontology, identity and themes of belonging & alienation * Social justice in terms of cyberspace vs. ?real? space * Global information flow and developing power structures Deadline for extended abstracts: December 31, 2014. We want to give to everyone the opportunity to present the most relevant work to the topics of the conference. There will be no proceedings, but we are exploring the possibility of having a special journal issue, where selected contributions will be published. Authors of those contributions would be invited to submit full papers after the conference. Each extended abstract will be reviewed by two PC members. Abstracts can be submitted from September the 15th till November 15th, 2014. We will do our best to have mostly oral presentations of the selected contributions, both plenary and in parallel sessions. However, there will be a poster session as well. During the submission process, you will be asked to specify whether your contribution is intended for a) Plenary session presentation, b) Parallel session presentation or c) Poster session presentation. The final allocation of each contribution will be decided by the Program Committee.
