Dear all,

The AIMS Metadata Community of Practice is glad to announce a series
of webinars called Linked Open Data @ AIMS that will take place from
December 2012 to February 2013.

-- Linked Open Data --

The traditional approach of sharing data within silos seems to have
reached its end. From governments and international organizations to
local cities and institutions, there is a widespread effort of opening
up and interlinking their data. Linked Data, a term coined by Tim
Berners-Lee in his design note regarding the Semantic Web
architecture, refers to a set of best practices for publishing,
sharing, and interlinking structured data on the Web.

Linked Open Data (LOD), a concept that has leapt onto the scene in the
last years, is Linked Data distributed under an open license that
allows its reuse for free. Linked Open Data becomes a key element to
achieve interoperability and accessibility of data, harmonisation of
metadata and multilinguality.

-- About Linked Open Data @ AIMS --

Six specialists will introduce the concepts of Linked Open Data and
Semantic Web in the 6 languages used on AIMS - English, French,
Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian - with the objective to
contextualize the initiatives related to Linked Open Data currently
taking place within the AIMS Communities of Practice.

Linked Open Data @ AIMS is not restricted to the agricultural
information management community, anyone interested in an introduction
to Linked Open Data and the Semantic Web may join.

The webinars are open to anyone but places are limited. If you are
interested to attend any of the webinars, send an e-mail to
AIMS at fao.org at least one day before, containg the following
information:
