Aims & Objectives
Knowledge is power and Libraries are power houses of present day knowledge based society. With all sorts of information being freely available on the web, it may seem that the role of a librarian in present context is changing rapidly. 
The basic objective of this national event is to impart education and training to Library professionals on the latest developments in ICTs, teach skills that help them apply the digital library solutions to library services, find out the emerging technologies for delivering quality and value added library services, offer an opportunity to put forth innovative ideas and insights that help the professionals improve access to knowledge resources in libraries, create awareness about open source movement and teach how open source software can be applied to libraries and finally to facilitate interaction with experts in the field and updating of knowledge of the library professionals.
It is expected that at the end of five days period, the participants to the workshop will be able to identify various emerging issues of ICT applications in librarianship and be able to inculcate skills relating to the advancements. It is also expected that after attending this workshop, the participants will become equipped enough in developing/implementing digital library solution in their own libraries.
This workshop will provide a platform for learning, interaction, hands-on practice and widening knowledge base of library professionals. 
Participants
Library and Information Science Educators, Librarians, Researchers and Students engaged in Management of Libraries and Information Centers will benefit the most from the Workshop.

The Course Content
The workshop will mainly focus following themes:


· Application of Information and Comm. Technologies in libraries
· Digitization and Digital Formats
· Digital Library Management System

o Installation and Configuration
o Metadata and Content organization
o Collection building and Publishing
o Search, Retrieval and other services
o Maintenance and Administration
o Interoperability 

Faculty
The program will be conducted by the in-house faculty of Department of Library and Information Science, Library professionals from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and few eminent scholars from other reputed organizations. 

Workshop Fee
Participation fee for this workshop is Rs. 500/-
Participation fee includes Registration, working lunches, workshop kit and software CD of the workshop. (Accommodation charges are not included)
The number of participants is limited to 30. The places will be offered on first come first served basis.

Banaras Hindu University: 
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is an internationally reputed temple of learning, situated in the holy city of Varanasi. This Creative  and innovative university was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, in 1916 with cooperation of great personalities like Dr Annie Besant, who viewed it as the University of India. 

Department of Library & Inf. Science: 
The Department of Library and Information Science of this renowned University is an active and highly regarded Department, which, since its creation in 1941 has established a national and international reputation in its field. The Department initiated Diploma Course in Librarianship, second of its kind in India after Madras University in 1942. In 1961, Diploma course was converted to Bachelor Degree Course. Department introduced One year Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) Program in the 1965 second after University of Delhi. The Department has been served by a number of 
eminent scholars namely Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, Professor P. N. Kaula, Professor C. G. Vishwanathan, Professor J. S. Sharma, Professor B. Guha, Professor J. B. Subrahmaniam.

Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)
Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) was established in the year 1969 by the Government of India to promote research in Social Sciences in the country. Through fellowships, project grants, subsidy for holding seminars & conferences, and provisions for providing support for visits abroad to attend seminars & conferences, the council provides valuable help and encouragement to scholars from every part of the country.

National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC) 
NASSDOC is a documentation unit of ICSSR. It is organizing short term training workshops for over 30 years for information professionals, researchers and others working in academia, business and government in the social science sector.

Certificate
The participants will be presented with a certificate at the end of workshop.
