Dear friends,
I congratulate Dr D.B. Eswara Reddy, my fellow standing committee member of IFLA Science & Technology Libraries Section, on his election as the Chair of this section. He is the first person so far elected to this office from India and perhaps to any other section of IFLA.
A student of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan, Prof. Neelameghan, and Prof. Bhattacharya at DRTC in late sixties, Reddy started his career as Science College Librarian at Wardha, Maharastra, worked for Central Leather Research Institute, Madras (CSIR), Bangalore University, National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad (ICAR), and retired in 1998 as University Librarian of Andhra Pradesh. Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad. Reddy has taught LIS courses at Bangalore University and was one of the first recognized guides by Osmania University for doctoral research in LIS. Under the guidance of Prof. K.S.Deshapande, in 1982, he has obtained Ph.D. degree from Karnataka University. Reddy earned his second MLIS degree from Wayne State University, United States. In the New Millennium, he has joined the Texas A & M University Library Faculty. http://library.tamu.edu/directory/devaereddy
Dr. Reddy was awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship in 1987 for postdoctoral research in LIS at Wisconsin University, Madison. Noticing the absence of a forum for agriculture under IFLA activities, Reddy has initiated Agricultural Libraries Special Interest Group (SIG), and since 2005 has been organizing and chairing sessions at IFLA conferences.
