> Montreal, March 22th 2007 - Last December, Library and Archives Canada held the first national Summit "Toward a Canadian Digital Information Strategy" (http://www.collectionscanada.ca/cdis/012033-611-e.html). The objective of the Summit was to define the key elements of a national strategy and the types of collaboration and investment necessary to reinforce and to maintain the Canadian numerical heritage. Following the Summit's recommendations, Library and Archives Canada (LAC), Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), as well as the Canadian Association for Information Science (CAIS), the Canadian Council of Information Studies (CCIS), the Synergies project and consortium Erudit will host on May 9th 2007 a one-day workshop. The aim of this meeting is to discuss and integrate the academic perspective on digital information and also to present both Canadian and Québec major projects in this field.

> The workshop will be held at Université de Montréal's École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l'information (EBSI) the day before the Canadian Association for Information science annual conference. The meeting will bring together faculty and researchers from various universities and Canadian research centers, as well as representatives from hosting institutions and major research funding organizations. This workshop will:
>
>
>
> *
> inform the participants of key priorities that were identified at the national Summit (content, preservation and access to numerical information);
> *
> identify research initiatives concerning the priorities;
> *
> identify concerned research groups and create a Canadian research community working on the national priorities;
> *
> discuss academic and training programs necessary to meet the various needs in the field of digital information.
>
> To initiate discussions on these topics, the local organizing committee prepared a blog (http://blogues.ebsi.umontreal.ca/stra_num/) containing Québec projects and the main issues that were raised at the national Summit. This blog will gather participants' preliminary positions concerning the Canadian and Québec informational heritage challenges.
