Deadline for the submission of abstracts for the conference "Toward a 
User-Centered Approach to Digital Libraries" in Finland has been 
extended until the 28th of February. Notification of acceptance of 
submissions remains the same as earlier announced, March 31, 2003.

Toward a User-Centered Approach to Digital Libraries

        CALL FOR PAPERS

The 2003 Conference on Users in the Electronic Information Environments 
will take place
on September 8-9, 2003 in Espoo, Finland


The conference is aimed at promoting scientific discussion and 
information exchange on  issues such as

--  how are users acting in the new digital information environments
--  do the digital information environments contribute to the quality 
and productivity of research
--  how do the users perceive the new information environments and 
evaluate their usefulness and usability
--  how to evaluate the performance and resources of digital libraries 
from the viewpoint of service providers
--  how do we ensure the usability of the high quality digital resources
--  what are the visions for future in this area.

The conference programme will consist of plenary sessions with invited 
speakers and other selected presentations as well as parallel sessions 
of presentations.
The programme will focus on the following themes:

  --  the development of digital library programmes
  --  use and users of digital resources
  --  evaluation of digital library programmes and digital services
  --  usability of digital library services via mobile devices.

You are invited to submit a paper discussing the topical issues of the 
conference and to share your visions and experiences as well as to 
envision new possibilities.

The extended abstracts, approximately two pages long, should contain 
sufficient detail to permit reviewers to judge their suitability.

The abstracts should be submitted to:

  in any commonly used word processor format. The preferred format is 
Word (version 6.0 or later). The deadline for the submission of 
abstracts is FEBRUARY 28, 2003.

The conference is organised by Helsinki University Library, The National 
Library of Finland in cooperation with the Information Studies 
Departments at Åbo Akademi University, University of Oulu and University
