I'm forwarding on the acceptance notice for our proposed workshop for the 2017 ASIST Annual Meeting. I've contacted the chairs to ask about timing (trying to get our workshop scheduled on Saturday the 28th). We will shortly need to send out a call for papers for the workshop. I would like one person to volunteer to help me with coordinating the workshop and associated papers. If you are interested, please contact me off-list. Thanks to many of you who contributed to designing and revising this workshop. I am excited about hosting it! -Shannon Dr. Shannon M. Please attend carefully to these comments as you organize your workshop. You will be contacted by ASIS&T Headquarters with further instructions. We thank you for your submission and look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC in October. Evaluation of the Contribution ------------------------------ Originality (10%): 10 Panel/Workshop Organization (10%): 10 Implications (10%): 10 Clarity (10%): 8 Engagement (10%): 8 Overall Recommendation (50%): 8 Total points (out of 10) : 8.6 Comments for the authors ------------------------ The topic of this workshop is quite timely and relevant, and the intellectual content of the proposal is very compelling and well thought-out. The mechanics of the workshop are a bit underdeveloped, and also a bit disconcerting. There is very heavy emphasis on papers, it basically seems like another paper session, which is unfortunate given that the half-day duration of a workshop affords the opportunity for deeper discussion and more robust interaction among workshop participants. It is not clear how the breakout sessions will operate, and it is unclear if there will be enough participants to have them separate out into these topics, or what the purpose or benefit of that would be. I strongly suggest that the organizers consider reworking the schedule to place more emphasis on interactive activities and less on papers. Perhaps instead of papers, the organizers could solicit individuals to write shorter position papers on one of the three topics, and then serve as panels to kick off the three topics. The day could begin with the keynote and then include three pairs of panel discussions followed by brainstorming activity. However, that's just my $0.02, the organizers of course have the freedom to organize as they see fit, and I would still argue to accept in its current form as the topic is very timely and it is important to see SIG IEP represented at ASIS&T by running a workshop. I very much appreciate the intellectual effort that the organizers put into deciding on the topic and motivating it, and the suggestions about format are an attempt to ensure that the organizers can make the best possible use of the intellectual work that they've done and stimulate insightful and timely discussions that can further work in the information ethics and policy space. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Review 2 ======== Contribution of the submission ------------------------------ This half day workshop proposes to concentrate on three themes: Teaching information and ethics Engagement with policymakers and Ethics in Information Science Highlighting and discussing these issues is timely and of importance The workshop outline is in a rather preliminary state, only one speaker was recruited so far. This is a workshop proposal, so at this point of time I cannot say anything about the presenters. Evaluation of the Contribution ------------------------------ Originality (10%): 10 Panel/Workshop Organization (10%): 8 Implications (10%): 8 Clarity (10%): 10 Engagement (10%): 8 Overall Recommendation (50%): 8 Total points (out of 10) : 8.4 Comments for the authors ------------------------ The proposal is interesting and timely. The themes are well-defined You should announce a CFP as soon as possible -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Review 3 ======== Contribution of the submission ------------------------------ The organizers want to organize this work to draw attention about fake news and the trust on information. I think it is a timely and great topic for this conference. Evaluation of the Contribution ------------------------------ Originality (10%): 8 Panel/Workshop Organization (10%): 8 Implications (10%): 6 Clarity (10%): 8 Engagement (10%): 10 Overall Recommendation (50%): 8 Total points (out of 10) : 8 Comments for the authors ------------------------ The topic of this workshop is certainly very interesting and timely. The only few minor comments i can think about are: - how to engage audience, maybe a panel including educators, practitioners, users, and audience will be a good one - maybe a poster session to include broad audience. - will you set up a website so that more info can be provided and generate more awareness about your workshop -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- SUBMISSION DETAILS ------------------ ID: 312 Title: The New Information State: How Information Ethics and Policy Affects Everyone REVIEW RESULT OF THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE: This contribution has been accepted. -- 2017 Annual Meeting of The Association for Information Science & Technology https://www.conftool.com/asist2017/ From michel.menou at orange.fr Mon Jun 5 12:11:32 2017 From: michel.menou at orange.fr (Michel Menou) Date: Mon, 05 Jun 2017 16:11:32 -0000 Subject: [Sigifp-l] Fwd: [Asis-l] Call for papers 2018 Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [Asis-l] Call for papers 2018 Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) Date: Fri, 26 May 2017 11:24:07 +0000 From: Brenda Sheridan To: asis-l at asis.org Announcing a call for papers for the 2018 Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) conference held from June 13-15 at the University of Zadar, Croatia! With the help of the computational intelligence, these digital ecosystems can exhibit new self-* properties (such as self-management, self-healing and self-configuration) environments, thanks to the re-combination and evolution of its "digital components", in which resources provided by each entity are properly conserved, managed and used. The underlying web-based resources mainly comprehend big data management, innovative services, smart and self-* properties platforms. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems, they are highly complex to study and design. This also leads to a poor understanding as to how managing resources will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative, intelligent and value-creating. The application of Information Technologies has the potential to enable the understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact to create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and knowledge. These technologies can be improved through novel techniques, models and methodologies for fields such as big data management, web technologies, networking, security, human-computer interactions, artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to support the establishment of digital ecosystems and manage their resources. The International Conference on Management of Digital EcoSystems (MEDES),previously named "The International Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems", aims to develop and bring together a diverse community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested in exploring the manifold challenges and issues related to resource management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and technologies can be evolved and adapted to this end. MEDES 2017 calls for full papers presenting interesting recent results or novel ideas in all areas of Emergent Digital EcoSystems. At the same time, the conference calls for short papers presenting interesting and exciting recent results or novel thought-provoking ideas that are not quite ready, and preferably include a system demonstration. The submitted paper should be at most 8 ACM single-space printed pages. Papers that fail to comply with length limit will be rejected. Submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 peer reviewers. After the preliminary notification date, authors rebut by evidence and arguments all reviewer inquiries and their comments. Based on the rebuttal feedback, reviewers notify authors with the final decision. Selection criteria will include: relevance, significance, impact, originality, technical soundness, and quality of presentation. Preference will be given to submissions that take strong or challenging positions on important emergent topics related to Digital Ecosystems.
