SJSU SLIS Makes List of Top Knowledge Management Companies

A national magazine recognized the San Jose State University School of
Library and Information Science (SJSU SLIS) on its annual list of top
"companies that matter in knowledge management."

This is the first time in the 14 years since "KMWorld" began publishing the
list that a library and information science (LIS) school has been selected,
editor Hugh McKellar said. <http://www.kmworld.com/> "KMWorld," based in
Maine, is a magazine, website and conference focused on news, trends, and
case studies in knowledge, content, and document management, according to
its website.

McKellar, who wrote the
<http://www.kmworld.com/Articles/Editorial/Features/KMWorld-100-Companies-Th
at-Matter-in-Knowledge-Management-87872.aspx> article titled "KMWorld 100
Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management," published March 1, 2013,
said the information school and the other companies were chosen "by a panel
of judges consisting of colleagues, system integrators, analysts and KM
professionals, all of which recognize the tremendous value of your program
and curricula."

He further explained that "the purpose of the list is to generate interest
and discussion about the breadth of knowledge management tools and services
-- and to highlight the companies our panel believes best fulfill the goal
of delivering the right information to the right people at the right time."

Criteria for inclusion on the list vary, but each company "has either helped
to create a market, redefine one, or enhance one, and they all share two
things -- velocity of innovation and the agility to properly serve
customers," wrote McKellar.

The article described SJSU SLIS as "graduate degrees and leadership
development for professionals who organize, manage and enable the effective
use of information and ideas."
