Calling User Experience Researchers!

This is a compelling brief for a UE Researcher who either is (a) in a
mid-weight research role keen to step up in their career to a
senior/principle consultant, or (b) currently a senior consultant looking
for a change in culture and environment. The client is a User Experience and
Design Consultancy, offering usability and accessibility services. They work
with clients within a broad range of sectors including financial services,
retail & consumers, travel & tourism, local and central Government and News,
Media & Video. A Senior Consultant would normally be expected to specialise
in a given area. You might be wondering what kind of projects they are
working on, at the moment? Interestingly, they are conducting user research
for a leading sports fashion brand and improving the accessibility of a
furnishing brands website.

You will manage usability projects from pitch to delivery. This will
typically involve conducting an initiation meeting with key stakeholders to
understand the business requirements. Workshops will follow, allowing you to
plan the project, prioritise work samples, discuss design concepts and plan
the implementation of the wireframes. In terms of research methods, you will
be engaged in conducting diary studies to gain a deep insight into user
behaviour, and carry-out user interviews. The feedback and data will
naturally form the basis upon which the design ideas generated and you will
essentially drive the decision making process.

At the next stage, Senior Consultants will then be expected to create high
level sketches based on those design ideas. You will work collaboratively
with the project team and in unison with junior consultants to decide on
which of the best ideas should be translated into electronic wireframes. The
typical software tools used include ‘balsamiq, visio and axure’, although
I’m sure many of you can pick up on using these tools quickly.

Another interesting responsibility you would have is conducting training
courses which are open to the public. The content of the training classes
can be formed from something you have read or you are interested in teaching
externally or internally. Often, you will contribute to blogs, which in many
ways keeps you abreast of developments within the industry across various
platforms ‘i.e mobile, tablet’ and will stretch your mind intellectually.
You will also contribute to the monthly newsletter and give your commentary
and leadership on a variety of digital topics.

Lastly, you will also write and carry out briefings, calculate budgets and
delegate co-workers and moderators. Ideally you will have a background of 3
– 4 years in a User Experience role, with a qualification in HCI or relevant
Masters Degree. This role will be based in a in a laid-back but dynamic
environment. The client would also consider somebody part-time, who has
relevant experience, so do get in touch to find out more information.
