[Sigia-l] [Iai-Members] A quick survey on reactions to visual design.

Sorry Dave,
Human reaction IS chemical and the evidence has been overwhelming for almost
three decades. I'm just trying to see if the rest of our little community
sees what I have observed dozens of times: clients who want jazzier layouts,
and respondents who think the eye candy gets in the way. And I want to see
if there are any cultural aspects of which I should be aware.
You can dismiss my hypothesis out of hand as false, but I'd advise you to do
some reading before you make such a rash judgement. You can start by
researching endorphins and the limpic system. And if you think brain
chemistry changes from person to person, you're playing into the hands of
those who believe in the superiority of certain races. This is a dangerous
area, Dave. Tread carefully. I'm going to assume that races are equal, but
culture may play a role. But I have a lot more to say about that - later. I
don't want to completely skew my results by explaining things in greater
detail.
As to the survey, the trends are already crystal clear after the first
hundred responses. And as to your comment regarding minimalist designs,
well, this has very little to do with this particular problem - even blind
squirrels find a tasty nut once in a while.
Wanna go out for a beer in Savannah next month? I'll tell you what this is
all about :-)
Cheers,
Eric

Eric, You know I love ya, but that survey is so poorly organized.
Your poblem is so much more complex than experience that it really can't be
handled in this survey.
I think your hypothesis is false. There is nothing chemical in human
reaction that is not also blatantly nullifiable through behavior and
culture.
I have also seen the exact opposite occur, when presented with B&W
wireframes the client saying they really like the minimalist approach and
then expect that to be the final design. Go figure!

Friends (with many apologies for cross-posting),
I have a theory I'd like you to help me prove or disprove. If you have five
minutes (in all - tops) and are involved in both:
- presenting proposed visual web designs to clients
- observing user testing of these designs
I look forward to hearing from you at:

Many thanks,
