I'm in the middle of writing my book on prototyping (http://rosenfeldmedia.com/books/prototyping/
) and can tell you that paper is one of the most common methods (70%
of nearly 200 respondents to a recent survey do paper prototyping).

So, it's very common. Paper has a number of advantages, like low
barrier to entry, platform independence, and the ability for those who
can't code to create prototypes — anyone can draw.

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.
