[Sigia-l] Pink, revisited

Hoa Loranger from the Nielsen-Norman Group did a very good
presentation on creating compelling teen websites at the NN Group's
User Experience 2004. She noted that the BBC site for teens, which
used pink for the girl's side of the home page, was violently
disliked by the girls it was intended to please. The color in
particular was singled out as something the girls did not like.

Ms. Loranger noted the "huge gender assumption" that the BBC's
designers had made, which were subsequently proven false during user
interviews and testing.

Surprisingly, the most teen votes for their favorite website (among
the six or seven in the study) was a fairly straightforward
informational site for the Alzheimer's Association.

Cheers,
Eric
