If I had to guess, to me it sounds like a kind of free-flow card
sorting - using the images to draw some hidden information out of the
test subjects. If the images were related to a specific task domain,
or organisation, then I think it would be the equivalent of picking up
a hard copy form and handing it to someone and saying "OK, what parts
of this form will contain information that you use?". We're doing that
kind of thing at the moment to ensure that a big nasty set of forms
gets translated into a useful online experience.
I am not sure if collaging would work everywhere but it sounds like it
might. Tell me more :)
