Thanks for all the responses. I've forwarded your suggestions to our developer, so we'll see what comes out of it.
 
Reason for not using AJAX: I've been told that we're leveraging an existing platform w/ little time to test new technologies, etc... the usual time constraint stuff.
 
Good thing I get these emails as a daily list. There were quite a few to sort out! :)
