[Sigia-l] "Getting the design right, and getting the right design"

Bill Buxton (Microsoft Research) says:

"In terms of user experience, there are two key objectives in the creation
of any system or product: getting the design right, and getting the right
design. At the risk of over-simplification, usability has traditionally been
concerned mainly with the former. That is good in the sense that at least
competent professionals are attending to that aspect of the design. But who
owns getting the right design, and how does usability fit into that aspect
of the process?"

Does anyone know of any papers, articles, blogs, etc *from the usability
camp* that speak to "getting the design right" part of the equation?

The constraint is the design.
