I think if you already have a Google account (i.e., GMail) that may be the
case, but I'm not sure if iGoogle is in fact the default for everyone
otherwise. 

I'm sure Google feels they need to be in this game with iGoogle, but I don't
think they are ready for primetime.

To go back to my point, given the scale and variety of apps coming out of
Google, it's really difficult to maintain that branding/focus. Thus pissing
it away with meaningless animated icons doesn't help.
