One word: grid.

Missing: focus, balance, hierarchy, layering.

Now, Laurie may be entirely right about this redesign being better than the
old one. I wouldn¹t know as I never really visited cnn.com much, though I
get a bunch of specialized RSS feeds from them daily. This home-page is
about as enticing to me as an RSS list-view. And in the era of the iPhone,
stuff has to be enticing. :-)

Visually, it¹s flatter than a flat tire.
