carries out research and development that enhances the value of library
services and improves the productivity of librarians and information
seekers.
We are currently seeking a Senior Research Scientist at our Corporate
Headquarters located in Dublin, Ohio. The Senior Research Scientist is an
initial rank in the OCLC research scientist career path.
The primary focus of the Senior Research Scientist position is to assist
with the development of research projects and programs that support OCLC
business objectives or the broader goals of OCLCs participants and the
library community. This position also represents OCLC and its participants
in national and international scholarly activities, including contributing
to the scholarship in the fields of computer, library, and information
science.
Responsibilities
o Initiate, conduct, and complete self-directed research initiatives to
support corporate, division, and member goals and projects and that are
responsive to the needs, interests, and current trends of the library and
museum communities
o Manage projects and meet project, publication, and presentation deadlines
o Prepare, present, and disseminate research findings by publishing in
professional, juried journals and orally at professional conferences and
meetings
o Act as mentor to research assistants and interns, and supervise and review
their work
o Prepare and submit grant proposals to fund original research
Qualifications
o Ph.D. in Library & Information Science, Computer Science, Informatics,
Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, or related
discipline
o 3 years of research experience, including doctoral research
o Demonstrated knowledge of research methods and ability to analyze and
synthesize data and information
o Project management skills
o Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and data base programs
o Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be
self-motivated
o Ability to understand and communicate with technical staff
Desired Qualifications
o Knowledge of social software and systems
o Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C++)
o Publications in professional journals and conference proceedings
o Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative data analysis software
programs
o Computer analysis and systems design experience
o Proficiency in one or more non-English languages
