Usability Engineer position - Wachovia, Charlotte, NC

Role
The Usability Engineer is part of the Customer Interaction Team, working 
closely with information architects and interaction designers to develop 
web structures that are user-centered. The primary role of the Usability 
Engineer is to lead usability testing efforts for Wachovia.com, evaluating 
ease-of-use for concept, wireframes, and aesthetic design prototypes.

Responsibilities
? Collaborate with information architects, interaction designers, business 
owners, developers, and graphic designers to establish usability test 
strategy for projects 
? Design testing strategy, test plan design and documentation
? Select & schedule and/or work with internal research group and external 
vendors to select and schedule interview and test candidates.
? Moderate user interviews and perform user testing
? Analyze interview & testing outcomes, report results, and propose design 
changes based on test outcome
? Manage Usability Lab: Establish all policies related to usability 
testing, and improve test lab facilities
? Define and evolve standard protocol, tools, techniques, and 
documentation/reporting templates for usability testing
? Ensure integration of efforts within Wachovia by staying informed of 
major initiatives, collaborating with peers to combine efforts, and 
creating synergies where appropriate.
? Maintain database of usability projects and usability information 
(knowledgebase)
? Perform heuristic analyses of sites (internet site, subsites, competitor 
sites) to assess strengths and weaknesses, capture ?low hanging fruit? and 
suggest testing needs.
? Explore technologies that complement the abilities of humans to add 
value to information.
? Share tasks with information architects and interaction designers as 
appropriate to develop skills and balance workloads.
? Participate in user-centered design related professional development 
activities.

Required Skills
? 2-4 years professional experience in software usability testing
? Excellent written and oral communication skills
? Outstanding analytical skills
? Detail-orientation
? Demonstrated success in conducting interviews with a wide variety of end 
users
? Demonstrated experience with a variety of testing techniques, including 
verbal protocols, on-site observation, focus groups, 1:1 interviews, 
online and phone surveys
? Strong understanding of a variety of technology platforms, including Web 
and wireless

Preferred Skills/Experience
? Incumbents typically have a Master?s degree with an emphasis on human 
factors/ergonomics, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology 
and/or usability engineering.
? Financial services applications experience preferred
? Senior Specialists generally have four or more years of related 
experience and may lead other staff on specific projects/analyses.
