Indeed, it's difficult to see how they could make the distinction between giving these details to a third party site, and Verified by VISA (or the Flickr authorisation system for something like Moo), where you aren't actually giving the details to the third party, merely authorising them to interact with wherever your email/credit card/photos are managed. I suspect that things like VbV will result in people thinking it's all part of the third party site, hence part of the purchase cycle and so Okay Really.
