Yes. So in the spirit of answering his question...
I'm doing a series of articles on this. The most recent one is on
Illustrator http://toddwarfel.com/archives/wireframing-part-ii-
illustrator-basics/. The first one does a high level comparison of
tools and explains why I use InDesign and Illustrator over anything

I use Illustrator for most of my diagramming and a combination of
InDesign and Illustrator for wireframes.
Illustrator is a drawing tool. I've been using it for years. And even
though it has a high learning curve, I only use eight tools in the
entire palette. So, as long as you can use those eight tools, which
are the same tools in Visio, OmniGraffle, and most other drawing type
programs, you can use Illustrator. Something I highlight in the most
recent article. I've even included a symbol library with our GUI
elements, the basic colour palette, and basic template we use at
Messagefirst.
