Charts. Basic columns, say, indicate *relative* measure. Rollover may reveal
*additional* info, like absolute value, dates, correlation to news items,
regional stats, etc. Depending on the purpose of the chart *in a given
context,* the first layer (relative) info carry the crucial data and the
secondary layer the optional/complementary info, in whose absence you can
perfectly live another day.

That would be by definition.

Like I've said 87 times by now, this depends on what the definition of
"important" is. Not all info on a given data point is equally "important".
The corollary is that by *not* layering info you may in fact be overloading
the cognitive abilities of the user and thereby lessening the impact of the
top layer "important" info.

Layering, people, is the old black.
