JOB OVERVIEW
Position Title: Junior User Experience Designer (IA, Usability, basic web
production/XHTML skills)
Travel: none
Location: Charlestown, MA
Position type: full-time, onsite employee
 
Eons¹ Design and User Experience team is looking to add a junior level user
experience specialist/designer to our team as we are growing and have a lot
of work to do!  This position will report to a Senior User Experience
Designer.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
The overall breakdown of this job from the start will be:
* 1/3 being responsible for an internal business unit (e.g. content
management system UI)
* 1/3 running usability tests and user-centered design activities that
support the senior design leads
* 1/3 covering fire-drills and overload from various projects
 
Eventually, the design team would like your position to become a more senior
role, with you being responsible for the design of a specific
product/vertical on the Eons website.  Your hard work and dedication will
pay off.
 
What this job is not:
* A straight web development job
* A graphic designer position or Flash gig
* Boring!
 

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of experience applying user-centered
design methodologies in a consumer business setting, or has a degree in
human-factors/UI design etc.  You should have some knowledge of software
development process, UCD, and web standards (XHTML/CSS). The ideal candidate
will be able to join the team and hit the ground running, keeping yourself
busy and finding holes to fill with your skill set in experience design.
This is a great starter position for somebody with a degree in
user-interface design/human factors, or for somebody who is transitioning
careers out of graphic design or software engineering/development. You
should know of or follow the blogs of people like Nielsen, Spool, Zeldman,
etc. 
 
Pluses:
* Graphic design 
* Knowledge of CSS/web accessibility and the web standards methodology
* Experience with Agile development process
* Development knowledge of some scripting language (anything is fine but we
use Ruby, JSP, Webobjects most of the time)
* An ongoing fascination with tiki culture
