Job Description: 
The Sr. Manager, UI Design works in the Hotwire Product Management
department and has a pivotal role in executing on new site developments.


The Sr. Manager, UI Design manages a team of five strong UI and visual
designers to translate new project concepts into a coherent UI design
that meets the user and business needs.  This position will drive
usability research for new and existing projects, and will lead oversee
design of all new products on the site.  This position will also have
some individual contributions, working independently on highly complex
and innovative problems.  This role is a key point of contact between
the business/marketing teams, the development organization and other key
departments to be the voice of the user.  Responsibilities also include
evaluating each project's complexity, estimating scope, communicating
interface design elements through the organization, and ensuring the
product is delivered on time and with a consistent, user-driven design.



Core Responsibilities: 
*	Understanding the needs of online travel customers, particularly
the Hotwire customer.
*	Overseeing several simultaneous projects and strategies from
inception to launch. 
*	Managing the operations of your group, including setting
priorities, assigning resources, and ensuring goals are achieved.
*	Mentoring designers and helping them to set and achieve a
fulfilling career path.  Reviewing designs and plans to ensure high
quality, ensuring your team applies user-centered design principles and
site design guidelines.
*	Identifying, documenting and communicating detailed schematics
to all areas of the organization, including engineering, marketing,
customer care, operations, security and others.
*	Estimating project complexity in the planning process and
facilitating project trade-off discussions.
*	Leading departmental and cross functional process evaluation and
improvements.

Requirements: 
*	Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Human-Computer Interaction,
Cognitive Science or related field and a minimum of 5 years professional
design experience, including 1-2 years of management experience in a
user experience group.
*	Exposure and experience in usability research (e.g. paper
prototyping, basic usability lab research).
*	Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly complex,
diverse and changing environment to meet deadlines and manage multiple
projects.
*	Strong leadership and personnel management skills.
*	Ability to identify cross functional improvements and influence
all areas of the organization.
*	Exceptional communication, design skills, and ability to
represent the voice of the user.
*	Understanding of complex e-commerce businesses, preferably with
travel industry experience. 
*	Excellent understanding of user experience design for the Web,
demonstrable design skills, and ability to show relevant work.
Experience launching products for consumer web sites.
*	Portfolio required.
