[Sigia-l] SIGIA-L is dead

Dear Friends,

Yesterday I saw a list gone amok. People I respect – quite a few –
probably should have counted to 10 before hitting the “Send” button.
And some of them even quit the list.

More’s the pity.

I think it would be in everyone’s interest – SIGIA, IAI, IxDA,
CMPROS, WHOMEVER – to forget the occasional hot-headed responses and
avoid more in-fighting. I also hope anyone who is thinking of leaving
will stick around – and anyone who left will reconsider their
decision.

Because I am a member of the Board of the IAI, I emphasize that I am
writing strictly in a personal capacity. I would, though, like to
point out that both the IAI list and SIGIA hold significant value for
our community. I would hate to lose either of them – or several
others interesting, entertaining, and informative lists I frequent.

There’s been a lot of talk about IAI being a paid list – USD 40 per
year, as opposed to the USD 15 per year that ASIST gets if you’re not
an ASIST member. But the real issue is, is this the right metric?

Just for fun, take your hourly wage and figure out how much you or
your employer lost in terms of productivity while you waded through
your flooded inbox yesterday. So which list costs more?

Yesterday was a bad day. Let’s chalk it up to a full moon or
something and move on in a productive manner that will help build our
community and strengthen our industry.

Cheers,
Eric
