[And can we now return to the originally scheduled program?]
As the list owner, I have a personal aversion to censorship, and that is
what moderation can turn into.
RE: Volume: In February there were 357 posts in 20 working days. Adding in
the avg. of 12 posts per day from people who post in other than plain text
and so must be individually dealt with, and we are talking someplace between
30 and 50 messages a day to moderate. That is time consuming and impedes
the desire we all have for instant gratification.
RE: Moderation: The list is either fully moderated or open as now. Several
folks have volunteered to help with moderation if the list were to become
fully moderated.
MY VISION: I fully understand and support IAI and IxD and others having
moderated, focused, targeted lists. I think there is also a place for a
wide open, sometimes rambunctious list, sometimes disrespectful but very
vital and alive.
The fact that sigia-l has almost 2500 subscribers speaks for itself. In
fact the list was over 2500 but has drooped 10-15 since this
thread/rant/group therapy session started.
I do go to individuals when I think appropriate and ask that threads be
taken off list, that posts not be ad hominem, etc.

PS
I am also very uncomfortable being the parent in the room as Skot described
me. ;)
And the subject line is intended as an adaptation from Newman's defense of
his beliefs, in case my very rusty Latin is incorrect.
