[Sigia-l] SIGIA-L is dead

I have to agree w/ Peter and Ziya on this one. Not that Peter Me will
every see this comment ... Oh! I can hit CC.

Anyway, SIGIA-L is not just a list, it is a contribution to the IA
community from a sister organization, ASIS&T. I am a member of IAI and
not of ASIS&T just for disclosure purposes, but this just struck me as
lame.

1. ASIS&T has been incredibly nice to IAI from its very beginnings,
and in fact one could theorize that if it wasn't for ASIS&T creating
the IA Summit and this list IAI would have been a really hard sell.

2. While this list has some distractions, it does afford things that
IAI does not afford. Openness. B/c we know that IAI's list is pay for
it is limited in scope. That could be a good thing, but it is also a
limitation by its very nature. Having a real community often means
being open for the bad with the good. Of course there needs to be
limits, as any community needs rules and structure to maintain itself.
I.e. if SIGIA-L started a thread on dental cavitiy fighting and that
took over the list, that might not be all that useful. But I believe
that Dick Hill has done an amazing job with this list and should be
congratulated and not back-stabbed by the president of a
sister-organization.
