for an information professional to manage our corporate subject taxonomy,
participate in the development of new taxonomy applications and processes,
and collaborate in implementing the next generation of information
organization services for the corporation.
Key Functions:
* Maintain and develop the MITRE subject taxonomy.
* Coordinate the categorization of information objects.
* Evaluate and work with automatic categorization tools.
* Implement and refine standards and processes for taxonomy management.
* Train staff in principles of information organization and applying the
taxonomy.
* Develop additional taxonomies as required.
* Participate in cross-functional teams to address needs in information
organization and retrieval.
Required Education/Experience: Bachelor's plus 4 years experience or the
equivalent in job-relevant work experience. Masters in Library Science,
Information Science, Computer Science, Linguistics or related field
preferred. 4 years experience in corporate information management.
Required Skills: Knowledge of information organization and categorization
principles, current and emerging metadata standards. Excellent analytical,
organizational and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to meet deadlines
and work independently. Effective communication, consultation, and
collaboration skills to build and sustain strong working relationships with
subject matter experts and peers across the enterprise. Experience with the
following a plus: MultiTES Thesaurus Management System, SIRSI Integrated
Library System and OCLC. Familiarity with controlled vocabularies in
engineering and technology, such as the INSPEC Thesaurus, the CALL
Thesaurus, etc. Familiarity with technical report metadata requirements.
