[Sigia-l] Being considerate of others (Off Topic Posts)

Sigh...looks like one of those recurring "semantic arguments" dead ahead.
Maybe I should rephrase my original request. Instead of simply
posting a link to something "interesting", posters can increase the
signal to noise ratio (and the likelihood of good discussion) by
explaining what they found interesting about the item/article and
adding something about why it is relevant or something folks on an IA
list would find interesting.
Suffice it to say that while some folks find "interesting" items off
topic, others might find them of interest. Posters can help the list
reader by making an attempt at helping the reader identify which items
are likely to be considered more on topic by those of us who think of
IA as a somewhat bounded practice/field/whatever. Those of you that
equate IA (Big IA) with UX, Big-D Design or whatever might consider
that not everyone shares that view, nor would everyone take the leap
from that foundation to the thought that therefore anything related to
technology (or Design or products in the market, etc.) is therefore
somehow related to IA. The more a topic is highly relatable to IA,
the less you need to clarify for other list users.
Of course, discussing what IA is (even though the list archives
overrun with that topic) should always be fair game here. Anyone
who's been on this list for a while shouldn't be asking "what's IA?"
-- they likely have already formed their own opinion, or at least have
a few vague notions.
I've been on this list for many years, and have always found that a
little guidance and introspection is healthy and helps the community
focus and will increase the value the community creates.
