It would be nice if we could limit the topics posted to this list to
topics closely related to IA. I'm not trying to single out any
particular post or poster, but frequently posts to this list seem to
only be "related" in that they have some relationship to design or
technology. People are on this list to discuss, stay informed, or
learn about Information Architecture. Many people are on many email
lists.
This list shouldn't be a place to share things that are JUST
"interesting" -- it should be about interesting *IA* things. Feel
free to share any other "interesting" material on your web site, blog,
personal email list, or whatever. Between Google News, RSS feeds,
blogs, magazines, and other sources, people have no difficulty these
days finding interesting articles on technology or other topics. This
should be one of the premier places to read about and discuss
Information Architecture.
IA is the subject that made this list, and is why people participate.
Wandering off topic often is likely to thin the ranks of those
contributing and getting value from the list.
If nothing else, it would make the list more usable if posters that
feel compelled to share somethng off-topic would insert <OT> into the
email subject or something like that to indicate that it's an
off-IA-topic that's being posted.
Please be considerate of the email inboxes of other SIGIA-L community members.
Thanks. I'll get off my soap box now.
