[Sigia-l] A new kind of search

As one of the 17 people in the world who could afford a cellphone but never
owned one, I'm still fascinated by this intriguing mash-up of the physical
and virtual worlds:

NYT/ With a Cellphone as My Guide

If you stand on a street corner in Tokyo today you can point a specialized
cellphone at a hotel, a restaurant or a historical monument, and with the
press of a button the phone will display information from the Internet
describing the object you are looking at.

For local search, this suggests a whole new world of info and interaction
design. (Not that we'll ever get to see anything like this in the US any
time soon, unfortunately.)
