Well, I always furnish the caveat: if you want to make a difference.

I don't want to belabor point here again but, if you accept my proposition
that design is a holistic discipline, then hyper-specialization takes away
your ability to lead the design process to an integrated solution. The
degree of difference you can make is often directly proportional to your
ability and willingness to lead. Hence the correlation.

Like I said before, there's no law that says you have to lead or make a
difference. There are plenty of people happy to narrow their focus,
expectations and rewards. And I'm cool with that too. :-)
