As you note, this has been one of the urban myths most detrimental to the
discipline: it ceded (the integration of) business strategy to "others"
thereby forever relegating IA to secondary class in corporate pecking order.
I never tire of saying here that there's nobody better at balancing the
needs of the client and the user than the Designer. Whenever we aim for
anything less we are implicitly accepting to become a plaything for those
who "defend the business."
