I tend to spec copyright as <current year>, encouraging developers to
make the year value dynamic. While this ensures that the current year
always is displayed, I do wonder if automatically updating the
copyright year value is appropriate from a legal standpoint for all
web content. Is it always legally correct to just display the current
year in the copyright on a web page, or is there some other legal
dependency tied to the copyright year?
