[Sigia-l] The Time magazine person of the year is YOU

Having spent some years working for Time, let me say that there is some
difference (believe it or not) between the editorial staff of the
magazine and the company business practices and strategies.

When Time writes a news article about the spread of user-generated
content or makes the user the Person of the Year, this is an editorial
decision. It has nothing to do with company business strategy, any more
than it did when Hitler and Stalin were Men of the Year.

The Man of the Year (or Person of the Year as it has become) designation
is not a popularity contest. It is defined as the person who has
influenced the most people on the planet for good or ill.

I didn't say it wasn't a positive event. I said it was most ironic
considering the source: Time.

Now, I'd be interested to know if you think Time is something other than
what I briefly described. What to me would be interesting is if Time
really came to believe what it announced and realigned its products and
services in the direction of "You." Its current business model just
doesn't allow it, so I am not holding my breath. Are you?

The cause of "You" will not be advanced because of Time (and other
one-way media), but most likely in spite of them.
