User. Well done Time Magazine!
Are you joyous because the acknowledgement was offered by the premier legacy
media company on the planet, which, from its publications to cable
operations, decidedly favors a top-down flow of information and
entertainment?
The vast majority of Time's products are highly-packaged, static, one-way,
broadcast and often user-hostile -- rendering the "You" to an advertising
consumption machine. They are anything but user-centric.
This is Time, the biggest media company that gave us Pathfinder.com and
couldn't figure out what to do with the Information Super Highway, debased
its shareholders in what's arguably the worst corporate merger in the
nation's history and hence since been floundering all over the place.
I'm not judging their business model; history, the numbers and market trends
can speak for themselves. Just that there's bit of a "Ted Stevens
discovering the tubes on the internets" irony to it.
