So you, as an "experienced designer" are responsible for design,
development, business, and qualified to expound on software development
issues, business issues, and now psychology.

Sorry to bust YOUR bubble, but 21st Century or not, this is ridicules. A
interaction designer (again, since there are more than one type of designer
on a project), is part of a team of people with a common goal. And no one
should give this type of authority to a team member - interaction designer,
developer, business manager, HFE, trainer, etc. for the same reason we don't
allow one of the lawyers in a case serve as judge. The role you are talking
about is that of Systems Engineer - not experienced designer. "Designer who
want more power" still need to know their place. I want a $10 million
bucks, so what. That doesn't mean I'm entitled to it.
