In Wall Street, the difference between someone who does the work and an
architect is usually $50K/year. :-)

In all honesty, I don't have a problem with the "architect" designation.
There are levels of application creation that require a non-procedural,
longer perspective. I studied architecture and used to go around
photographing and studying buildings. I saw architecture not just as
something that satisfies the immediate needs of its inhabitants but as an
edifice that satisfies over time. I saw it as an investment into the future.
Something that has to withstand the vagaries of time...and fashion. To the
extent that all those "architects" fulfill this aspect of the application
they perform an indispensable function.
